Obituary

SAVENYE _ Rene Herman born in Holland October 9, 1938, passed away suddenly July 26, 2002, as a result of a lightning strike. He left us exactly the way he would have wanted, wearing his hiking boots, on top of a mountain (Mount Fairview near Lake Louise). Rene is survived by Anne (Johnson) his loving wife of 40 years, sons Mike (Marilyn) and Ed, his Mom Vera, and predeceased by his dad Fred and son Paul (Terry). He is also survived by brothers Jack (Donna), Frank (Dianna), and sister Carla Evans as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Rene retired as a biology teacher from Princess Margaret (Surrey), after 31 stellar years, to follow his naturalist dream and passion, including his love of hiking, photography and the disciplines of Biology, Botany, Mycology, and Paleontology. His work and dedication in these fields, and leadership of group tours of all ages throughout the Northwest, have been enjoyed and recognized by many as a result of his inspirational and generous nature. In addition to his many roles, he was the dedicated President of the White Rock and Surrey Naturalist Society. Prayers and viewing will be at 7:30 PM, August 5, 2002, at Columbia Bowell Funeral Chapel, 219 6th Street, New Westminster. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Peter's Church, 402 Royal Ave., New Westminster, August 6, 2002, at 12:00 PM, by Father J. Jordan O.M.I. A Reception will follow Mass at Dontenwill Hall. Those friends wishing to make memorial donations may do so to the Federation of BC Naturalists, 425 1367 W. Broadway, Vancouver or North Shore Rescue, 147 E. 14th Street, North Vancouver.
