History
The entire area containing North Olmsted was originally part of the Connecticut Western Reserve.
In 1806 the vast tract of land comprising present-day North Olmsted, Olmsted Falls and Olmsted Township was purchased for $30,000 by Aaron Olmstead a wealthy sea captain.
Lewis Urry, inventor of the alkaline battery and lithium battery, is buried in Butternut Ridge Cemetery, in North Olmsted.
Timothy Franklin Gates, founder of the Zurn corporation, spent his early years in North Olmsted.
