Castello di Pombia, Piemonte, Italia

Notes:
History and description of the site:

CASTRUM DOMINI. It consists of the remains of fortifications dating back, it is believed, to the 10th century, of which two large enclosures, a well and a square tower remain. It had the task of protecting the population from a possible enemy attack. The perimeter walls are one meter thick and have an irregular wall texture; some parts show traces of Roman bricks, others in a herringbone pattern, while most are made up of large river pebbles mixed with stone.

ARDUINICO CASTLE. The building, with a regular plan, is the result of the union of two distinct buildings and dates back to the 16th century.

More archaic architectural remains testify to the existence of a pre-existing building: a column with a fourteenth-century capital, residue of a portico, and an octagonal column with a base and capital from the same period. Other original elements are the two mullioned windows and the overhanging battlements.

Information:

The CASTRUM DOMINI is located near the Church of San Vincenzo; nearby is also the CASTLE dating back to the 16th century. Municipality of Pombia tel. 0321 95333

In front of the church of San Vincenzo are the remains of an ancient fortification dating back to the 10th century and formerly the exclusive property of the bishop of Novara. You can see a square tower and a hole located inside two recent vases. Strong are the remains of the perimeter walls built with mixed techniques: river pebbles, Roman bricks and brick pebbles arranged in a herringbone pattern.
